School Lunches

Parents/carers can choose for their child to have a cooked school lunch or bring a packed lunch. Our lunches are cooked to order at a local primary school and transported to us each day in heated containers ready to be served immediately at 12:00. Pupils up to the age of 7 (Reception, Y1 and Y2) are entitled to a free school meal every day as part of a new government funded initiative. The current cost of school dinners for children in Y3-6 is £2.30 per day - £11.50 per week.

Free School Meals

Family economic circumstances can vary greatly. In certain circumstances, a family whose child is in Y3-6 can apply for their child to receive a daily school meal without charge. The common misconception is that there is a stigma attached to such circumstances and that a child may be singled out. A child who receives free school meals is not identified or treated differently to other pupils who choose school meals. Free school meals are available to children whose parent/carer is in receipt of one or more of the following benefits:

• Income support

• Income based job seeker’s allowance

• Income related employment and support allowance

• Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

• Child tax credit with an income of less than £16,040 and not receiving working tax  credit

• Guarantee element of state pension credit
